Shopify Bundle Setup Guide

Shopify Bundle Setup Guide

At MontiiCo, we've always been committed to bringing you products that seamlessly blend functionality with aesthetics. And now, with the FUSION Range, we're taking that commitment to an entirely new level. Prepare to bid farewell to the clutter of various drink containers, as our FUSION Range boasts multi-purpose bases designed to effortlessly replace your drink bottles, coffee cups and smoothie cups. It's not just a consolidation; it's a step towards a more organised and sustainable lifestyle.

To create the vision, we have moved to a more "buy only what you need" model, allowing you and your customers a more personalised approach to purchasing their new drinkware.

All FUSION parts come packaged separately, and can be sold as separate items on your website (i.e Sipper Lid, Universal Insulated Base Dusk 350ml etc.) this allows your customers to create their own Montii, or to buy the individual parts as they need them.

However, to make it easier for your customers to shop initially, we also recommend that you set up single products as a bundle. This will allow the customer to purchase a single product on the front end of your website (such as a 350ml Sipper + Straw Bottle - Dusk, which would consist of the Base + Lid + Straw). As different bases have different matching parts (ie. straw length) this is the easiest way to eliminate any complications while introducing the new FUSION system.

Using the following bundle apps, the single product listing will split into multiple pieces in the back end to manage inventory accurately, and will print individually on packing slips to ensure the correct parts are shipped to your customers.

To make it as simple as possible to create listings and sell the new FUSION Range, we have produced the following guide on how to setup product bundles in Shopify.

Apps

Up until very recently, bundles required 3rd party apps that used various methods to create bundles due to the lack of native support in Shopify.

Shopify has now built bundle technology into it's product, but you still require an app to setup the configuration. Below are two recommendations that we have tried and tested.

Shopify Bundles App

Shopify Bundles App is the app Shopify has developed to leverage their new bundles technology in their platform.

  • Pro's:
    • Free
    • Support provided by shopify
    • Very simple and easy to use
    • Simple inventory management
    • Good performance
  • Con's
    • Very limited in functionality
    • No ability to discount in multi-product bundles
    • No ability for customers to choose variants

How it works

  1. Install the app from the Shopify app store.
  2. Open the app and create a bundle.
  3. Choose the product variants (components) that will form the bundle.

  4. This will create a new "product" being the bundle itself. You can then modify the listing with all your product information and images.

  5. When a bundle is added to cart, Shopify will add the individual bundle components to cart and thats what will appear on the order.
  6. Once the order is confirmed, stock for the individual bundle components will be removed from inventory.
  7. Inventory for bundles is calculated by the individual components. E.g. if you have a bundle with sipper lids and you only have 5 of those lids in inventory, you will only have 5 bundles available.

Simple Bundles & Kits

Simple Bundles & Kits is a 3rd party app that has been developed to specifically use the new native bundle technology in Shopify. Depending on your store size, it will cost between $25-50 per month.

  • Pro's:
    • Very simple and easy to use
    • Simple inventory management
    • Good performance
    • Great customer support
    • Lots of functionality
    • Ability for customers to choose their own bundle variants (mix 'n' match)
  • Con's
    • Cost

How it works (infinite bundle)

  1. Install the app from the Shopify app store.
  2. Open the app and create a bundle. Make sure you have version 2 of the bundles enabled.
  3. Choose your bundle type: Simple or Infinite.
    1. Simple bundles are for fixed products with limited variants
    2. Infinite are for bundles with more than 100 variants or more than 3 options. Also mix 'n' match bundles.
  4. Create your base bundle with title and description.
  5. Add your price, product variants and give your drop down menus a name.

  6. Once saved, you can now edit the bundle "Product" page to include all your listing details and images.
  7. Your bundle will now be available with options for customers to choose their own bases, lids and straws.
  8. When a bundle is added to cart, Shopify will add the individual bundle components to cart and thats what will appear on the order.
  9. Once the order is confirmed, stock for the individual bundle components will be removed from inventory.
  10. Inventory for bundles is calculated by the individual components. E.g. if you have a bundle with sipper lids and you only have 5 of those lids in inventory, you will only have 5 bundles available.

Bundles.app

Bundles.app is a older app that does not rely on the newer Shopify bundle technology like the other two apps. This app can help with issues where the new bundles apps cause incompatibilities with processes or procedures in your business.

It works by allowing you to create a bundle as a single seperate product made of components. It will add the bundle to cart and customers purchase the bundle (not the seperate products). Once the order is confirmed, within 30 seconds, the order is automatically edited by the app, removing the bundle and inserting the individual components. This may help in situations where you need to product pro forma invoices for bundles but not the components.

  • Pro's:
    • Simple and easy to use
    • Good performance
    • Great customer support
  • Con's
    • Inventory management - inventory is removed after the order is confirmed
    • No mix 'n' match
    • Uses order edit function to edit the order after completion to add the components to the order
    • Can be difficult to edit an order

How it works

  1. Install the bundle app.
  2. Create a new product listing for the bundle you wish to create. E.g. Lid and Straw. At this stage, you can enter your product images, descriptions pricing etc. Everything you need to list your new bundle.
  3. Open the bundle app and click Create Bundle.
  4. Under "Select Bundle" enter the product you create in step 2.
  5. Under "Select Components" choose the individual components and their quantities required to make the bundle.
  6. Your bundle has now been created. You can now publish the product you created in step 2.
